Evidence of Work
In this project we had to do a presentation on a species that was endangered. We decided to do the report on the hellbender giant salamander. The hellbender lives in streams and running bodies of water and lives under rocks. We had to focus on the adaptations and evolution of this species. The hellbender has many adaptations to help it survive. It has a flat head and slender body to hep it move upstream. It also has many behavioral advantages to help it hide from predators. It nurses its young in a den to hide them and it has adapted to catch and eat crawfish.
The reason the hellbender is endangered is because of local logging and mining businesses near their streams. from the logging and mining business they create masses of dirt and lumber that builds up in the streams. This creates silt that cakes the bottom of the stream and fills up the hellbenders holes, destroying their habitat.

Species- A species is a group of similar animals, plants, or other living organism that shares many similarities and is capable of breeding with each other. Species are the groups of animals that we can often analyze evolution in.
Evolution- The process that takes place in a species where they develop and change over time to become a different or more adapted species. The hellbender had evolved overtime to thrive in its own streams. Evolution is the main basis of all evolutionary theories and ideas.
Mutation- A mutation is a random difference in a species DNA that differs from the genes the species parents passed down.
adaptation. Advantageous mutations that help the species survive often lead to evolution because the advantageous gene passes on to the youth and they have a higher chance of reproduction and survival.
adaptations- The process where a species becomes behaviorally or physically changed to better suit the species in its environment. A species will adapt to its environment and then the species will evolve because of the adaptations. An example of an adaptation would be the ability to see in the dark while your species lives in a cave.
gene flow- Gene flow is the emigration and immigration of one population to another. if the gene flow of two populations is high enough then they will have the same bio diversity and will be the same population. If the two populations gene flow is zero then they have no connection to each other and will most likely become separate species.
non-random mating- A species mating habits that are based off of a desirable behavioral or physical attribute of their mate. This causes a species to evolve into one trait because they breed with the trait more often. It ends up causing the species to evolve and adapt.
small population- when a species begins and it only has a small population one random trait in one of the few species will become a huge part of the species as they breed and increase. This causes a small mutation to become a huge part of a species.
genetic drift- When a species gains a dominant trait not because it is advantageous but because it becomes dominant at random. When an animal with a mutation that has no effect on the likelihood of it reproducing gets lucky and its family breeds often it will eventually make the species have that mutation but its only because it drifted towards that mutation.
sympatric speciation- When a new species develops without geographical barriers.
reproductive isolation- When species cant interbreed.
behavioral isolation- When species create different mating rituals.
geographical isolation- Animals developing unique traits from separation.
temporal isolation- When a species mating seasons are different.
allopatric speciation- When a new species develops from geographical changes. A species on an island might get separated from the same species on a different island then both species would evolve to survive best on their own island.

Reflection
During our project we had a rough time collaborating with the entire group but in the end we were able to pull it together and do well in our assignment. We had a rocky start to our project because we had one very stubborn teammate who refused to do our species because he didn't like it.Eventually me and my teammate just decided to do the assignment on our own. We did very well together and i set up docs with all of our necessary questions. I answered all of the questions and even did independent research at home. Our stubborn teammate later got mad at me for doing all of the work and said that i wasn't letting him do any work. I told him that he doesn't need to finish the work I was doing and should create his own work. Although he did not apply my advice he stopped complaining.
Through the project i learned that if I am genuinely interested in a subject it makes it significantly easier for me to work on the project. I actually wanted to learn more about this species so by the first few days I had already come to know everything about it. Also I learned how to cope with a struggling teammate. I had to make sacrifices to our overall presentation to please the other teammate but found ways where they did not detriment our slideshow too much.
I still have to work on separating out the work for our project. I ended up just doing most of our groups work out of sheer boredom and ended up taking control of most of the project. Also i need to work on time management. I spent some days completely slacking off and talking to friends but I luckily had done most of the work already at home. Overall i need to plan out all of the work and follow the gantt chart.
